Everything You Want to Know Before You Say Yes.
Honest answers, in plain English. If your question isn’t here, just message me.
Getting Started
How do I get started?
Book a free 20-minute Website Chat, send the contact form if you’d rather write, or text me on 027 566 8803. I’ll get back to you within one business day.
What happens on the call?
Twenty minutes, free, no prep. You tell me what’s going on, I look at whatever you’ve already got beforehand, and I tell you honestly what I’d do in your shoes. If we’re a fit, you get a written proposal by email with anything outside the standard scope priced in it. If we’re not, I’ll point you somewhere better.
I don’t like phone calls. Is that a problem?
The call is twenty minutes and it’s the one part I do ask for, because quoting a build without understanding your business is how people end up paying for the wrong thing. After that, you never have to get on the phone again if you don’t want to. The Kitchen Table Interview covers the same interview questions in writing, at your own pace, and everything after it happens by text and email.
What is the Interview?
The conversation your website is written from, and there are two equal ways to do it. The Drive-Home Interview: a voice call with my AI assistant, whenever suits you. Car, couch, between meetings. About 15 minutes, no forms, no Zoom, you just talk. The Kitchen Table Interview: the same questions in writing, filled in at your own pace, no login. There’s no wrong answer, and one is not better than the other. Do the one you’d actually finish.
Do I have to write anything at all?
Nothing. I write every word, from your interview, your existing content, and one round of your feedback. You see every section on a private review page before anything gets built.
How long does it take?
Most clients go from saying yes to live site within 3 to 4 weeks, and spend less than an hour of their own time across the whole thing.
Do I have to be in New Zealand?
No. I’m based in Whangārei and I build for people anywhere. The whole process is remote, so where you are changes nothing about how it works or what you get. What it does change is the pricing: New Zealand starts at $5,000 NZD + GST, Australia starts at $5,000 AUD, and anywhere else I quote you in writing before anything starts. Invoices outside New Zealand carry no New Zealand GST. The only thing worth knowing is that I work New Zealand hours, so a long time difference means replies land overnight for you.
Why do you limit builds each month?
Because every site I build, I keep: hosting it, updating it, answering the texts. The cap means every build gets done properly and the clients already on my books never wait because I’m chasing the next job. If the month is full, I’ll hold your spot in the next one.
The Build
What’s included in every build?
Everything a business needs to be credible and found, as standard. Your story captured in one conversation, market research, every page written in your voice, your content pulled from everything you’ve already made, up to 8 pages built by hand, a blog, a step-by-step guide to setting up your own Google Business Profile written for your business, an enquiry form to your inbox, email capture you own, and a site built to be found on Google and cited by AI tools. Domain, hosting, security and updates included. Nothing on that list costs extra.
Is this a template?
No. Every line is built specifically for your site. That’s why it loads in under a second, looks like nobody else’s, and has no plugins waiting to break.
I already have a website. Is this a rebuild?
Yes, and that’s most of my clients. You’ve grown past what you have; I start fresh, in your voice, to where you are now. If you want the evidence before deciding, start with the Audit & Blueprint.
Can my site have a course platform or members area?
Yes. The Learning Hub is a full course platform on your own subdomain, with student logins, per-course access, and Stripe checkout. It works whether YourHQ built your website or it lives somewhere else entirely, and the price is the same either way. See the Learning Hub page for the full story.
What if my business needs something unusual?
Then we talk about it, and it goes in your proposal with a fixed price if it’s needed. The one thing I’ll always refer out is physical products with inventory and shipping. That’s a Shopify job, and I’ll point you to someone good.
Will my site work on mobile?
Yes. Mobile-first is non-negotiable.
What is AEO and why does it matter?
AEO, answer engine optimisation, is how your site shows up in AI-generated answers, like when someone asks ChatGPT for a recommendation. In 2026, a growing share of your customers meet you there first. Every build is structured for Google and AI answers both.
Ownership and Leaving
Do I own my website?
Completely. Your domain is registered in your name from day one, and your content, design and data are yours unconditionally. Your site also lives in a GitHub repository that you have access to, so you are holding the actual code and not a promise about it. Nothing held hostage. Ever.
What happens to my site if something happens to you?
You already have it. Your site is kept in a GitHub repository you have access to from launch, so you are not relying on me being alive or in business to get your website back. If I die or stop trading, any competent developer can clone that repository and carry on. Your domain is in your name, your content is yours, and the code is already in your hands. It is the least comfortable question in this business and most people building sites for you have no answer to it. That is mine.
What if I want to leave?
30 days notice. You get a full, clean export of everything, plus a written handover document listing exactly what needs reconnecting with a new provider and what each piece does. Your domain was always in your name. That exit path is written down before you need it, not worked out in an awkward conversation.
Can I pause?
Yes, for up to three months. The pause starts at the end of your current paid period, so your site stays live for the month you’ve already paid for. Once it begins, your site comes down and nothing is charged. In its place, your domain shows a simple holding page with your contact details, so anyone who looks for you can still reach you. Everything is kept safe and comes back exactly as it was when you resume, any time inside the window. A second pause is not automatic, we work it out in a conversation.
What about my data?
Your site collects only what it needs. Enquiries go straight to your inbox, email signups export as a file you own. I don’t harvest your client data or use it for anything. Ever.
Pricing
What does this actually cost?
Websites from $5,000 + GST to build. Care from $149 a month + GST. Where yours lands depends on what we’re building, and you’ll have your exact numbers in a written proposal before anything starts.
Why don’t you list exact prices?
Because exact prices belong to exact sites. I’d rather price your actual job than sell you a package that half fits. The proposal is free, it’s specific to you, and it’s yours even if you take it elsewhere.
How much is the Audit & Blueprint?
$997 + GST, one-time, delivered within five working days. If you build with me within 90 days, the full $997 comes off your build price. There’s a free 16-page sample on the Audit & Blueprint page if you’d rather read one first.
Why is there a monthly fee?
Because a website isn’t a thing you buy once, it’s a thing that runs. The monthly means it stays fast, secure, accurate and current, and that the person watching it is me.
What if I don’t love the site?
You see the complete finished site before Caretaker starts. At the private preview, before you’ve asked for a single change, you can walk away with a full refund of your build fee, minus payment processing fees and any domain registration already paid for. Ask for a change or approve the site and that window closes, and it’s only open before launch. Love it or leave it.
What currency do international clients pay in?
Depends where you are. New Zealand clients pay in New Zealand dollars. Australian clients are quoted and pay in Australian dollars, and the build starts at $5,000 AUD. Anywhere else, I quote you in writing before anything starts and the currency is stated on it. Invoices outside New Zealand carry no New Zealand GST.
The Honest Ones
I’ve been burned by a web designer before. How is this different?
Structurally, not just in spirit. You sign off every word of your copy before a single page is built, so nothing gets made behind your back. You see the complete site at the preview, and before you ask for a change you can still walk away with a refund. Every site is built by me personally, and I stay on after launch as the person who looks after it. That doesn’t mean everything will be perfect. It means you’re not alone if it isn’t.
How do I know you won’t disappear like the last one?
Because disappearing would break my whole business, not just your website. My revenue is monthly care, not one-off builds, which means I only do well if your site is looked after for years. The industry’s build-and-disappear model is exactly what YourHQ was designed against.
What if my business changes after the site is built?
Message me. New service, new direction, new name. That’s what the care fee is for.
How do changes actually work once I’m live?
You text or email me. Changes come out of the dev time included in your Caretaker tier: 30 minutes a month on Sorted, an hour on Connected, two hours on Building. What you don’t use rolls over into the next month inside the same quarter, so a quiet couple of months leaves you a decent chunk to spend. Quarters run Jan to March, April to June, July to September, October to December, and the balance resets at the end of each one. Requests get batched and actioned within the week, and anything urgent and factual, wrong opening hours, a wrong phone number, gets done straight away. Work beyond your included time is quoted in writing before it starts, at $175 + GST an hour with a half-hour minimum. That’s the only hourly rate there is.
What if my photos and content aren’t very good?
I’ll tell you, honestly and early, and we’ll work out what’s needed. I won’t build something that undersells you just to fill space.
I’m worried about compliance. Professional claims, advertising rules.
I write carefully. No clinical claims, no guaranteed outcomes, no language that creates regulatory issues for professional services. If your professional body has advertising guidelines, share them and I’ll write to them. I have this conversation with almost every professional services client.
What if I just want to ask a question first?
Text 027 566 8803, email lian@yourhq.co.nz, or use the form. No commitment, no pitch. Just a straight answer.
